PASS THE TORCH

Pass The Torch began in 2022 by Dale Lay and Jo Fry from South Coast Skate Club in Worthing. They are a team who have consistently carved out and built a skateboard community whilst helping others. Their outreach has helped many kids and we are very proud to have partnered with them in developing Pass The Torch.

Pass The Torch course was created to give the next generation (PTT volunteers) 16 and under the opportunity to learn and grow through coaching others in something that they love, skateboarding.

By SCSC and Clown teaming up with Happy Skateboarder Skate School, Shred The North and Don't Rain Skateboarding who all had very similar ideas, we were able to produce a new three-part programme, including the FLASH course.

PTT/FLASH has been designed to offer skateboard organisations or individuals whom run lessons and/or skate schools, the chance to give young people the opportunity to make a difference in their local skate scene. The programs aim is to complement the coaching course initiative, encouraging and involving young people interested in skateboarding to take things further with coaching.

The PTT programs are built on the idea of putting the future of skateboarding into the hands of the next generation.

FLASH Programme 2023

FLASH is the introduction and at the very heart of the project, set up to help young people of all ages and skill levels that wish to help their skate community by lending a hand with coaching / supporting people and promoting togetherness.

The Pass The Torch FLASH volunteers will receive a handy pocket-sized FLASH booklet with guidance on the basics of skateboarding tricks, how to manage shared space at skateparks and the skate ethos. Each Pass The Torch FLASH volunteer will also be awarded a free deck at the end of their time as an assistant, with the possibility to take things further in the future through other Pass The Torch programmes that are all built on the idea of putting the future of skateboarding into the hands of the next generation.

Ricky from Gnarlwharl skate school has stated, “Signing up to Pass The Torch has helped boost what we're doing and the kids absolutely love the boards. Our main goal for the school is to make skateboarding as accessible to as many people from all walks of life as we can and with the Clown In Action community boards, we're one step closer to that goal."
